Head Coach Steve Stonebraker

Steve Stonebraker begins his 1st season as Head Coach of the Chargers in 2015.  Stonebraker has been in coaching for 21 years. 

 

Stonebraker began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Warren East in 1995-1996.  He then spent one year each as an assistant at Greenwood HS and Franklin-Simpson HS.

 

In 1999, at the age of 24, Stonebraker became the only head coach in KY, at the time, that was under the age of 30 when he took over the program at Casey County High School.  Casey County was 1-48 in the five years previous to Stonebraker's arrival.  In his first season, Stonebraker led Casey to a 4-5 record including their first victory over rival Russell County since 1975. 

 

The following season, Stonebraker led Casey to their first ever winning season and playoff apperance in school history.  During Stonebraker's two years at Casey they also had their 1st ever top 10 state ranking and broke most school records for rushing offense and had the #3 performance in state history for total offensive output in a single game.  While at Casey Stonebraker's teams broke nearly every school record in rushing offense and also broke the school single-season scoring record in 2000.  Two players off of the 2000 team were named to all-state teams.

 

In 2001, Stonebraker took over the Garrard County High School program.  Taking over a program that had only won 14 games in the previous four seasons he led the Golden Lions to a 7-4 record in his first year.

 

During his time at Garrard County, Stonebraker's teams broke nearly every school record in passing offense categories.  Stonebraker became only the 2nd coach in school history to post back to back seasons with a playoff victory.  He also became the 1st coach in school history to defeat rival Lincoln County in consecutive seasons.  During his time heading up the Garrard program they competed against state powers Dunbar, Danville, Lincoln Co., DeSales, Western, Bryan Station, Glasgow, Frankfort and George Rogers Clark.  Stonebraker had multiple players receive all-state honors at Garrard.

 

In 2008, Stonebraker took over as the receivers coach at Centre College and was on the job there for two seasons.  During his time there he coached two all-conference receivers.  The Colonels had the 2nd longest winning streak in all of Division 3 football during his time there.

 

In 2010, he took the reigns of the Woodford County High School program.  Stonebraker's offenses broke various school records including single game scoring, single game rushing, and single season rushing.  Stonebraker also led the Yellow Jackets to their first finish in a top half of a district in 10 years and their first winning district record in 7 years. 

 

Stonebraker played at Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, KY under KHSAA Hall of Fame coach, Joe P. Hood.  During Stonebraker's time as player the Dragons competed in two Class 4A state finals against Trinity.  They also played games against national powerhouses Montgomery Bell Academy (TN), Ben Davis (IN), and Evansville (IN) Memorial. 

 

Stonebraker played and lettered as a receiver at Union College in Barbourville, KY.  He has a History Degree from WKU and Rank !! Teaching Certification from EKU.  Stonebraker has been a full-time classroom teacher for 17 years.  He has one son, Solomon, who is 9 years old and plays in the J-Town Youth Football League. 

Dee Mucker

Defensive Coordinator/Offensive Line

Coach Charles D. Mucker enters the 2015 season as the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach at J-Town. 

 

Coach Mucker was born in Louisville and is a 1989 graduate of Jeffersontown High School.  In his first career he joined the Louisville Division of Fire in 1992 and retired as Colonel in 2012.  During his career he received technician training in Hazardous Materials, Dive Rescue, Swift-water, Confined-space, Emergency Medical, and served 7 years on the Tactical Rescue Team.  He retired from the Division in 2012 as the Executive Assistant Chief (Car 2) managing all day to day operations.  In 2013, Coach Mucker began his second career as an ECE Teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools and is currently teaching at the Binet School. 

 

He has a B.S. in Business Administration, a M.S. in Management, and a M.A.T. in Learning & Behavior Disorders (Spalding University) and has received several awards including the Outstanding Professional Award from Indiana Wesleyan University, the Professional Achievement Award (Louisville Defender), and has been included in the “Who’s Who” in Black Louisville publications (lastly 2012).  Coach Mucker’s football playing career was at Jeffersontown where he was an 1st Team All-District selection, received the Defensive Award his Senior year, and played in the East/West and Louisville/Indiana All-star games respectively.  He has 14 years of Coaching experience which includes time as: 7th & 8th grade and Freshman Head Coach, Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator, Defensive/Offensive Line Coach, and is currently the Defensive Coordinator/Linebacker’s Coach for the Chargers. 

 

He is a member of First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown and of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  He’s married to Lea Dorsey-Mucker and has one son Charles II (who is a member of the Kentucky State University Football Team), and one grandson Trai.  His hobbies include fishing, bowling, and managing youth sports in Jeffersontown, where he is currently the President of Youth Football/Lacrosse.

Chan Nelson

Former Charger player Chan Nelson returns to the staff in 2015.  He will be the coach of the Varsity Defensive Backs and Receivers.  Nelson will also serve as the Defensive Coordinator for the subvarsity games.

Greg Stich

Outside Linebackers/Strength Coach

Coach Greg Stich begins his 1st season on the Jeffersontown High School football staff after coming from Seneca.  Coach Stich's responsiblities will include working with the Outside Linebackers, serving as the Chargers strength coach and helping out Coach Mucker with the offensive linemen.

 

Coach Stich is a native of Louisville and a graduate of Trinity High School.  Athletically, Stich is most well known for his prowess on the basketball court.  At the time of his graduation, Stich left Trinity as the 2nd leading scorer in school history.  He accepted a scholarship to play NCAA basketball at U.T. Chattanooga.

 

Stich has coached football at St. Elizabeth school and Seneca High School.  His hobbies include basketball, tennis, racquetball, scuba diving, pickleball and billiards.

 

He is a retired former Sergeant with the Louisville Fire Department.  He serves as a Fire School Drill Instructor in Louisville.

 

Stich has three children (Scott, Joseph, and Holli).

Darryl Watson

Defensive Line

 

Darryl Watson begins his first season with the Chargers.  In addition to being the Defensive Line coach he will be the offensive coordinator for the sub-varsity teams.

 

Watson graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1978. He participated in Track and Field (shot-put), Baseball, Basketball and Football for three years. He earned All Public/All State and participated in the 4th Annual Eagles All-Star Football Game.  After an injury in his freshman year in college he enlisted in the military. Returning home he continued his passion for football by playing semi pro for four years with the Holmesburg Ramblers in the Mid-Atlantic Semi-Pro Football Conference, being known as a hardnosed middle linebacker and offensive tackle. While employed in Law Enforcement for 25 years and raising a family, Darryl completed his education from Eastern University and the University of Scranton earning a BA in Organizational Management, BA in Special Education, MBA Specializing in Non-Profit Management, and M.ED in Educational Administration. Darryl continued his career in the military in the Army Reserves, and retired after surviving combat in Iraq.  His passion for football has never stopped. He is married and has five sons and a daughter. Two of his sons are former J-Town Football alumni’s, Devin (class of 2013) and Darell (class of 2014) Watson.

Coach Dean Wilkins earned a B.S. in health & human science from UofL in 2012, currently working on MAT in Biology at Univ. of the Cumberlands. Coach Wilkins begins his first season on the Charger Football staff.  He will help Coach Watson with the defensive linemen and handle various organizational duties for the program.  Wilkins is also the Head Wrestling coach at J-Town High School in addition to being an assistant soccer coach and an assistant athletic director. Wilkins works at the high school as security and is also recieved his real estate license in 2014. He and his his wife Danielle currently live in J-Town.

Steve Vesel

Tight Ends/Transportation Coordinator

Veteran Louisville area coach Steve Vesel joins the Charger staff in 2015.  Vesel will help with the Varsity Tight Ends as well as helping to work with the skill players in the lower grade levels.  Vesel will coordinate practice transportation for J-Town football being responsible for organizing and driving the activity bus.

 

Daniel Meyer

Head Statistician

Long-time football statistician Daniel Meyer will on staff for his first season with the Chargers and will have the role of head statistician and is a valuable asset to the program. 

 

Daniel is a native of Indiana and has lived in the Louisville area for years.  He was the head statistician for the Garrard County Golden Lions during the years when Coach Stonebraker was the head coach there.

 

Meyer will be involved in all areas of offensive and kicking game stats and his efforts will be used in relaying player and team performances to various media outlets.

 

Daniel and his family run their own business, Metal Dynamics, Ltd.  They take contracts to do various jobs throughout the United States.

 

An avid UofL fan, Meyer currently resides in Bullitt County.  He and his wife, Myra, have two sons.  Their oldest son, Ian, like his father, is a graduate of WKU.  Ian was an assistant statistician for his father while at Garrard County and is now living in Califonia.   The Meyer's youngest son, Eli, is attending WKU as a Freshman this Fall.

Sean Brinley

Video Coordinator

Sean Brinley begins his first season heading up video for the J-Town football program.  Sean will be responsible for filming all Varsity games and then uploading the film into our online Hudl account to be viewed by players and coaches.

 

Sean has a son, Zach, who is a Freshman on the 2015 Charger team. 

 

He is a resident of Jeffersontown and owns his own landscaping business.  Sean has helped as a volunteer in the J-Town youth football program for years.

STAFF

The Coaching Staff greatly appreciates the help of the student managerial staff.

 

Senior K.J. Thornton is the head manager for the Chargers.  He is responsible for making sure team equipment is in working order for practice.  He is also responsible for making sure that the team has water at all times during practices and games.

 

Senior William Palmer is in his first season as an assistant team manager.  William's responsibilities include getting instructional equipment on the field for practice and assisting K.J. with any other duties that arise.
